Shipping policy

Shipping Policy

This Shipping Policy applies to orders placed with The Newport Curiosity Shop through our website.

We take reasonable care when packing and dispatching orders, particularly vintage, antique, collectible, fragile and one-of-a-kind items.

Nothing in this Shipping Policy affects your statutory rights under UK consumer law.

1. Our Details

2. Where We Deliver

We deliver to locations made available at checkout.

The delivery methods available for an order may depend on:

  • the delivery address;
  • parcel size and weight;
  • the products ordered;
  • carrier restrictions;
  • whether an item is unusually long, large or heavy;
  • whether an item is fragile or valuable; and
  • the number of items ordered.

Not every delivery service is suitable for every product.

3. Shipping Charges

Shipping charges are calculated or displayed at checkout before payment is completed.

Charges may vary according to the:

  • size of the parcel;
  • weight of the order;
  • delivery destination; and
  • delivery service selected.

We make reasonable efforts to ensure shipping charges shown at checkout are accurate.

If an obvious shipping-price or carrier-selection error occurs, particularly with an oversized, unusually shaped or exceptionally heavy item, we may contact you before dispatch to discuss an appropriate alternative.

We will not charge you an additional amount without your agreement.

If a suitable delivery arrangement cannot be agreed, we may cancel the affected order and issue a full refund.

4. Dispatch Times

We aim to dispatch orders as soon as reasonably possible.

Any dispatch timeframe shown on our website is an estimate unless we expressly state otherwise.

Vintage, antique, fragile, unusually shaped or oversized products may require additional time to package securely.

If there is likely to be a significant delay in dispatch, we will contact you where reasonably possible.

5. Delivery Services

Depending on the product, parcel and destination, we may use delivery providers including:

  • Royal Mail;
  • DPD;
  • Parcelforce; or
  • another suitable courier or delivery provider.

We reserve the right to use a different suitable carrier from the one initially anticipated where reasonably necessary.

For example, we may change carrier if:

  • the parcel exceeds the original carrier’s size or weight limits;
  • an item requires a more appropriate service;
  • the original service is unavailable for the delivery postcode;
  • there is disruption to a particular carrier; or
  • a different service is reasonably necessary to transport the item safely.

Where we substitute a carrier, we will use a reasonably appropriate service and this will not affect your statutory rights.

6. Oversized, Long and Unusually Shaped Items

Some of our products, including walking sticks, umbrellas, larger decorative pieces and other unusually shaped items, may exceed the limits of standard parcel services.

Such items may be sent using a different carrier or specialist delivery service.

The packaging dimensions of an item may be larger than the dimensions stated in the product listing because additional space may be required for protective packaging.

7. Recycled Packaging

At The Newport Curiosity Shop, we reuse suitable packaging wherever reasonably practical.

Your order may therefore arrive in a recycled or previously used cardboard box or other suitable outer packaging.

We may also reuse protective materials including:

  • bubble wrap;
  • packing paper;
  • cardboard;
  • air pillows;
  • protective inserts; and
  • other clean and suitable packaging materials.

Reused packaging may show previous labels, markings, tape residue, writing or cosmetic signs of previous use.

Where necessary, previous address labels and identifying information will be removed, obscured or covered.

We only reuse packaging that we consider reasonably suitable for protecting the goods being dispatched.

The cosmetic appearance or previous use of the outer packaging does not indicate that a product sold as new has previously been used.

8. Fragile, Vintage and Antique Goods

Many of our products are fragile, vintage, antique, collectible or one-of-a-kind.

We take reasonable care when choosing packaging appropriate to the item.

This may include:

  • additional cushioning;
  • recycled protective materials;
  • double boxing;
  • reinforced packaging; or
  • using a different carrier where appropriate.

Please take reasonable care when opening packages, particularly where fragile goods are enclosed.

9. Delivery Times

Delivery times shown at checkout, in order confirmations or in tracking information are normally estimates, unless a delivery service is expressly described as guaranteed.

Delivery may occasionally be affected by circumstances outside our reasonable control, including:

  • carrier delays;
  • severe weather;
  • transport disruption;
  • seasonal demand;
  • industrial action;
  • unsuccessful delivery attempts;
  • customs processing where applicable; or
  • incorrect or incomplete delivery information.

We will not be responsible for a delay to the extent that it was caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, but this does not remove any statutory rights you may have concerning delayed or undelivered goods.

10. Customer Responsibility for Address Details

You are responsible for entering a complete and accurate delivery address when placing your order.

Please check your:

  • house or building number;
  • street;
  • postcode;
  • town or city; and
  • any other relevant delivery information

before completing checkout.

If you discover an address error, contact us immediately at:

raybouldsvintage@outlook.com

If the order has not yet been dispatched, we will make reasonable efforts to correct the address.

Once a parcel has been dispatched, we cannot guarantee that the delivery address can be altered.

11. Orders Returned Due to an Incorrect Address

If a parcel is returned to us because the customer supplied an incorrect or incomplete delivery address, we will contact the customer.

Where legally permitted and the error was not caused by us, we may require payment of the reasonable additional postage cost before sending the order again.

Alternatively, where appropriate, the order may be cancelled and refunded after the goods are returned to us, subject to any deductions or delivery costs that we are lawfully entitled to retain.

12. Failed Delivery and Uncollected Parcels

Customers are responsible for responding appropriately to carrier delivery notices, collection instructions and reasonable requests to arrange redelivery.

If a parcel is returned to us because:

  • delivery was repeatedly attempted unsuccessfully;
  • the customer did not collect it from a collection point or delivery office; or
  • the customer did not follow reasonable carrier instructions,

we will contact the customer.

Where the failure was not caused by us or the carrier, we may ask the customer to pay the reasonable cost of sending the parcel again, where permitted by law.

13. Safe Place and Neighbour Deliveries

If you provide a carrier with instructions to leave a parcel in a nominated safe place, with a neighbour or in accordance with other specific delivery instructions, you should ensure that the location selected is suitable.

Please take care when authorising unattended delivery of valuable, fragile or one-of-a-kind goods.

Nothing in this section transfers risk to you earlier than permitted by law.

14. Tracking

Where a tracked delivery service is used, tracking information will normally be provided after dispatch.

Carrier tracking systems may take some time to update after a parcel has been accepted into the delivery network.

Tracking information is supplied by the carrier and may occasionally be delayed or inaccurate.

15. Parcels Shown as Delivered

If carrier tracking states that an order has been delivered but you cannot locate it, please first check:

  • your nominated safe place;
  • around the delivery property;
  • with other members of your household;
  • with neighbours where appropriate; and
  • any photograph or delivery information supplied by the carrier.

If you still cannot locate the parcel, contact us promptly so that we can investigate with the delivery provider.

A carrier marking a parcel as delivered does not by itself remove any statutory rights you may have.

16. Lost or Missing Parcels

If your order has not arrived within the expected delivery period, please contact us at:

raybouldsvintage@outlook.com

We may need to investigate the parcel with the delivery provider before determining whether it has been delayed or lost.

We may ask you to provide reasonable information required by the carrier during its investigation.

If goods remain undelivered in circumstances where we remain legally responsible for them, we will provide the remedy required by applicable consumer law.

17. Damaged Parcels

If an item arrives damaged, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible.

To help us investigate the damage and make any carrier claim, we may ask you to retain and photograph:

  • the damaged product;
  • the outer packaging;
  • internal protective packaging;
  • the shipping label; and
  • the parcel before or during unpacking where photographs are available.

Please do not dispose of damaged goods or packaging until we confirm that they are no longer required for the investigation.

These requests do not affect your statutory rights.

18. Visible Damage to Outer Packaging

Where reasonably possible, if a parcel appears visibly damaged when it arrives, we recommend photographing the outer packaging before opening it.

This can be useful evidence when making a claim against a delivery company.

Failure to take a photograph before opening the parcel does not remove your statutory consumer rights.

19. Combined Shipping

Where practical and safe, we may combine multiple products from the same order into one parcel.

We are not required to combine products where we reasonably consider separate parcels to be safer or more appropriate.

Large, heavy or fragile orders may be split into multiple parcels and may therefore arrive at different times.

20. Separate Orders

Separate orders are processed independently and are not automatically combined for delivery.

If you place more than one order and would like them combined, please contact us before dispatch.

We may combine them where practical, but cannot guarantee that this will be possible.

21. Delivery Risk

Where we arrange delivery using a carrier offered by us, the goods generally remain at our risk until they come into the physical possession of you, or a person you have identified to receive them.

If you independently arrange your own carrier and that carrier was not offered by us as a delivery option, different rules may apply.

22. Delivery Delays

If a parcel is significantly delayed, please contact us so that we can investigate.

Unless a different period has been agreed, we will comply with applicable legal requirements concerning the timeframe for delivery.

Nothing in this policy restricts any right you may have to cancel an order where delivery has not taken place within the legally required or expressly agreed period.

23. Cancellation After Dispatch

If you change your mind after an order has already been dispatched, please do not simply refuse or return the parcel without contacting us where reasonably possible.

Contact us at raybouldsvintage@outlook.com so that we can provide the appropriate return instructions.

Your cancellation and return rights are explained fully in our Returns & Refund Policy.

24. International Delivery

Where international delivery is offered, additional customs, taxes, import duties or handling charges may apply.

Unless otherwise stated, these charges are not included in the product price or shipping charge collected by us and may be payable by the recipient where permitted by applicable law.

International parcels may also be delayed by customs or border processing outside our reasonable control.

25. Returns and Refunds

Our Shipping Policy should be read together with our Returns & Refund Policy.

That policy contains information about:

  • change-of-mind cancellations;
  • return postage;
  • faulty or damaged products;
  • refunds;
  • return condition; and
  • refunding original delivery charges.

26. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Shipping Policy from time to time.

The shipping terms applicable to your order will be those in effect when your order is placed.
